Ga-Dangbe of Toronto (GADAT)

Ga-Dangbe Toronto (GADAT) is the official organization representing the Ga people of Accra-Ghana in the Greater-Toronto-Area (GTA) of Ontario, Canada.

Meetings are:  Every third(3rd) Sunday of the month at the Driftwood Community Centre in North-York.

The Current President is :  Mrs. Christina Nuamah (below);

and the Vice-president is:  Mr. John Ahoni.

The Ga-Dangme people live mostly in the Greater-Accra region of Ghana which includes Accra, Abokobi, Ada, Adenta, Amasaman, Ashaiman, Dodowa, Labadi, Madina, Nungua, Osu, Prampram, Sowutuom, Tema, Teshie, Weija and so on.

Among their many traditional believes and practices, they also maintain a Chieftaincy Clan and celebrate the “Homowo festival”.

The current Ga chiefs in Toronto are:  Nii Kwei Aku V and Naa Akuyea Afieye Sika I, who are known as the “Ga Mantse” and “Ga Manye” respectively.

The Toronto Homowo Festival is usually celebrated during the second (2nd) or third (3rd) week of August every year.
